John Paul Fernandes

Nursery School Teacher / Co-Owner  John Paul Fernandes is a 1975 Graduate of Roger Williams University receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree.

In 1983 John Paul and his wife Pamela opened Sea Side School to provide children with a place to learn that would be fun, interesting and educational.

John studied the art of Jewelry making at The Rhode Island School of Design in 1979 and worked as a jewelry designer in Providence for several years, as well as doing free-lance design work.

Over the years he has undertaken many varied art projects. He taught porcelain doll making at a local studio and won several international competitions for his doll work.

He helped design local theatre sets at Our Lady of Fatima High School in Warren RI and did some local community theatre work with the Bristol Theater Company in Bristol RI.

John currently sings in the baritone section with St.Michael’s Episcopal Church Bristol, RI.

John Paul is member of The Portsmouth Arts Guild and holds a board position. His work has been featured at the Newport Art Museum and DuBlois Gallery Newport RI, Imago Gallery Warren RI, Hope Gallery Bristol, and shown by the Art League of RI.  John Paul is an active RI Community artist.

His arts have inspired many young children and adults as well. You will often find him working quietly with an individual child drawing. His work is displayed on the school walls helping to provide an artistic, inspirational and a vibrant classroom.

John Paul is often described as the “Mr. Rogers” of Sea Side for his kind, quiet and patient ways of working with young children.
